In 1992, Abel Posse, an Argentinian diplomat and writer publishes El largo atardecer del caminante. This novel ends a trilogy of a sort about Discovery, which he began in 1978 with Daimón, and continued in 1983 with Los perros del paraíso. These narratives are linked by the re-writing of History, and appear like a Book. These three novel's protagonists are myths extracted from History, which the writer enjoys altering in order to question the writing itself of History, and its thruthfulness. Thanks to a rich and neo-baroque writing, the author takes us into a literary game which feeds on intertextual and philosophical strategies. History becomes a pretence and its demythicization is the basis of the desanctification of historical characters. The classical landmarks of Good and Evil are disrupted in a spiral journey which leads the reader to the limit of a neo-uchronia. The new writing of History through the novel becomes a pretext for the author to develop his own philosophy of politics in Argentina, a country he says to be suffering. He comes in this auctorial shape to its bedside and turns himself into the hero of a new epic.
Keywords : Latin American new historical novel, philosophy of time and history, hero(es) and anti-hero(es), intertextuality, literary games.
